Earth Day Webinar – Rivers: Protecting Water Quality in the Midwest – April 22


The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 will host a Rivers: Protecting Water Quality in the Midwest webinar on April 22, 2021, at 1 p.m. CDT.


This webinar will feature presentations from EPA Region 7 staff and from organizations working across the Midwest to protect and improve water quality. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about:


  • A Meet Your Big Muddy presentation on the history of the Missouri River from Missouri River Relief Executive Director Steve Schnarr.
  • How EPA Region 7’s Trash-Free Waters program, along with Wichita State University Environmental Finance Center and the Missouri Confluence Waterkeeper organization, are working with local community groups on a project to install and maintain three trash traps in St. Louis area streams.
  • How environmental conditions in water bodies can intensify harmful algae growth, called Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), and about research being done to prevent them.
  • Restoration work being done along the Middle Blue River in Kansas City, Missouri/Kansas and in the Meramec River Basin near St. Louis, as part of the Urban Waters Federal Partnership.
